Chapter 4: Security features
Setup two-factor authentication
What is two-factor authentication (2FA)
2FA is a security measure that requires two forms of identification to access an account. In addition to your regular login credentials (username and password), 2FA adds a second factor, typically a unique code generated on your trusted device, to verify your identity.
2FA is a powerful security feature that adds an extra layer of protection to your Intuitive Password account. By enabling 2FA, you ensure that even if someone gains access to your login credentials, they won't be able to log in without the additional verification from your trusted device. This feature provides enhanced security and safeguards your sensitive data from unauthorized access. Follow the step-by-step instructions below to set up 2FA.
Method 1: Message authentication
- Click "Features" on the left-hand side of your screen, then select "Two-Factor Authentication" from the dropdown list.
- Answer the security question for security verification and choose the "Message authentication" option.
- Enter the country calling code and mobile phone number you want to use to receive security messages from Intuitive Password.
- Click "Send Code" to receive a verification code on your mobile phone, then enter the verification code received on your mobile phone and click "Enable Protection".
Method 2: Google authentication
- Click "Features" on the left-hand side of your screen, then select "Two-Factor Authentication" from the dropdown list.
- Answer the security question for security verification and choose the "Google authentication" option.
- Install the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device, then open the Google Authenticator app, tap on the Menu icon, and select "Setup Account" to add a new entry.
- Scan the QR barcode displayed by Intuitive Password using the app's camera or manually enter your Intuitive Password email address and the code displayed above the QR code.
- Enter the code generated by the app into the field provided by Intuitive Password and click "Enable Protection".
Method 3: Passkey authentication
- Click "Features" on the left-hand side of your screen, then select "Two-Factor Authentication" from the dropdown list.
- Answer the security question for security verification and choose the "Passkey authentication" option.
- Now, it's time to insert your FIDO2-certified passkey into an available USB port on your computer. After inserting the passkey, click the "Verify Passkey" button to proceed.
- A Passkey Setup window will appear, presenting you with various verification methods. Choose the most suitable method based on your preferences and security requirements. It may prompt you to confirm your identity through additional means such as biometric verification or a PIN, follow the on-screen instructions carefully to ensure successful setup.
- Once you've completed the passkey setup and chosen your preferred verification method, proceed to click on the "Enable Protection" button. This action activates the two-factor authentication mechanism with passkey authentication, adding an extra layer of security to your account.
Disabling two-factor authentication
- Click "Features" on the left-hand side of your screen, then select "Two-Factor Authentication" from the dropdown list.
- Answer the security question for security verification and click the "Disable Protection" button to disable 2FA. Note: After disabling 2FA, you can safely delete the authentication account from your Google Authenticator app.
What to do if I lose my mobile device?
In the event that you lose access to your mobile device or are unable to use it for 2FA, Intuitive Password provides a backup solution. After successfully enabling 2FA, Intuitive Password will generate a list of backup codes. These backup codes can be used in addition to your login credentials instead of the second factor, allowing you to temporarily bypass 2FA and access your account. Note that each backup code can only be used once. If you exhaust all your backup codes, you can regenerate a new list of backup codes at any time by clicking "Generate Backup Codes".
If your phone is not available for 2FA and you don't have access to the backup codes, you can click "Verify Another Way" on the login screen to verify your email address. Intuitive Password will send a verification code to your inbox, allowing you to complete the verification process and access your account.
